Image yourself in modern day Iran…. Welcome to Persia. Now imagine yourself in 580 B.C. Cyrus the Great. Formed Persia by uniting two tribes. Upon conquest, Cyrus founded a government. Cyrus then led his army to the eastern fronts. Conquered Drangiana, Arachosia, Margiana and Bactria.

Cyrus the Great • Formed Persia by uniting two tribes. • Upon conquest, Cyrus founded a government. • Cyrus then led his army to the eastern fronts. • Conquered Drangiana, Arachosia, Margiana and Bactria. The year is 580 B.C. You live in the newly founded Persia. Your emperor is Cyrus the Great

  3. The Charter of the Rights of Nations ... I am Cyrus. King of the world. When I entered Babylon... I did not allow anyone to terrorize the land... I kept in view the needs of people and all its sanctuaries to promote their well-being... I put an end to their misfortune. The Great God has delivered all the lands into my hand; the lands that I have made to dwell in a peaceful habitation...

  5. Important Accomplishment • Before his death, Cyrus founded a new capital city at • Pasargade, and had established a rock solid government. • He appointed a governor to • each province. • It was said that he had set up an imperial postal route.

  6. Pasargade-The Final Resting Place of Cyrus • Before Cyrus died, he made sure he was to buried in Pasargade. • Not much remains of this ancient city but a large tomb, some pillars • and tablets. • In 330 B.C Alexander the Great and his army came to Pasargade and • paid respects to Cyrus.

  7. Greco-Persian Wars • Long and bloody war between the Persians and Greeks. • Started when Persia just acquired Lydia. • They forced their strict laws upon the citizens. • One man Aristagoras rebelled against Persian laws. • He first went to the strongest nation in Greece the Spartans. • The Spartans refused, so he went to the Athenians, who decided to help. • The Athenians invaded Lydia, conquering the capital. • The Persians were not pleased with this so they started a huge war. • In the end the Greeks won.
