The Second Mile of Serving one Another Matthew 5:41
In the context of Matthew 5:41 • To love one’s neighbor is the first mile – to love one’s enemy is the second mile. • To bless those who bless you is the first mile – to bless those who curse you is the second mile. • To do good to those who do good to you is the first mile – to do good to those who hate you is the second mile. • Praying for those who pray for you is the first mile – praying for those who despitefully use you is the second mile.
Are you a second mile servant? Do you have brethren who are? Are you sure? Paul had confidence that Philemon would go the second mile! (Philemon 21)
The Second Mile of Help & Hospitality • The Macedonians had gone the 2nd mile in giving to meet the needs of saints. (2 Corinthians 8:1-5) • We will go the 2nd mile when we have given ourselves to the Master. (Romans 12:1-13) • We will be “addicted” to hospitality. (1 Cor. 16:15) • Our help and hospitality will be given expecting nothing in return. (Luke 14:12-14) • We will gladly and energetically water the camels! (Genesis 24:10)
The Second Mile of Forgiveness • Forgive (Luke 17:3) • Forgive seven times in a day (Luke 17:4-10; Col. 3:22) • Forgive seventy times seven (Mathew 18:21-35)
Will you go the second mile to serve and forgive others? That’s what Jesus did for you!
