  2. Introduction - Professional • This is my 5th year teaching 5th grade. • 14th year in Chagrin Falls / 17th overall. • Also taught 2nd,4th, 6th, and Phys. Ed / Reading Spec. • Taught in Twinsburg 1st Grade w/ Dr. Jones. • Attended CSU and received my Masters in the Art of Teaching from Marygrove. • Coaching • Basketball • 14 th year MS 7/8th grade

Approach to Teaching • Joe Sarconi • 6th grade teacher at St. Columbkille • Young, fun, played BB after school, took us to get pizza. • Wanted to do well in class as a result of the time he invested in getting to know us as individuals. • I spend a lot of time getting to know your children. • Great Class • Enthusiastic, polite, fun, diligent • Focus on interests, hobbies, family. • Active Participation • Stand up, whisper to your neighbor, hand on your shoulder, pick sticks, thumbs up

Classroom Rules • Class developed “Hopes and Dreams” • Important to be goal oriented • Will revisit goals throughout the year • Focus on • Listening, Effort, Organization, Participation • Rules will be created and voted by students • Follow the rules to achieve H&D • Logical Consequences • Loss of privilege • Positive Reinforcement • Earn Class Reward • Activity

Routines • Students have various folders/binders • Red – Math, Blue – Social Studies, Orange – HW, Green – Science, Yellow – Language Arts, Foreign Language. • Morning • Turn In / Check Homework • Bellwork • Introduction / Discussion / Extension • Fill in Planners throughout the day with HW • End of the day empty their mailboxes get mail. • Friday Folders • Will have any graded work from the week.

Homework • Students should receive HW each night. • 40 – 50 minutes a night as a grade level • Let us know if it is taking longer # Communication • Develops responsibility and organization • If they finish their HW at school they can always • Read • Work on Math Facts • Visit Teacher Websites • Math and Language Arts Links • You need to check and sign planners. • Homework should be written in there every day. • If no HW is assigned then “NONE” should be written. • Initial – when it is finished, check it if it is completed.

  14. Grading • Try to give at least 1 grade each week in each subject area (sometimes 2) • Math, Science • Unit Tests • Study Guide, Jeopardy (Review Game) • Students will be given the opportunity to correct work for ½ credit. • Look on Infinite Campus • Grades, Missing Assignments
