Guessing Place names • Place names can tell us a lot about the History of an area • For example New Zealand – this tells us that it is based on a place called Zealand, which is in the Netherlands. Therefore we can tell that it was discovered by the Dutch • Your turn: think of a place where the name tells you something about its History and excplain why.
