  1. Design and Technology Plastic work

  2. Plastic Sheet Cutter • It is used for scraping straight cut on thin plastic sheets (especially acrylic and PVC) before parting off.

  3. Plastic Sheet Cutter • Use a steel rule as a guide to scrape a cut line on the plastic sheet.

  4. Plastic Sheet Cutter • Clamp the plastic sheet between a thick wood strip and the bench top alongside the cut line. Press it and the sheet will snap along the cut line.

  5. Strip Heater • It is used for bending most thermoplastic materials especially acrylic and PVC. • When heated to about 170 C, the plastic sheet will be softened enough for bending. • The higher the position, the wider the area is heated.

  6. Strip Heater • The sheet should be turned over at intervals for heating the two sides of the sheet evenly. • The regulator controls the heat output and the temperature is kept constant by the machine.

  7. Strip Heater • Usually, the lengths of the machines are 500mm and 1000mm. • For making some specially designed shape, wooden formers are required to facilitate the bending work.

  8. Strip Heater • For thick sheets (4mm or above), use a plastic sheet cutter to cut a V-shaped slot along the line of bending for better bending effect.

  9. Strip Heater • Safety Notes • Wear protective gloves to protect your hands. • Do not put wet acrylic over the slot for heating. • Beware of bending burnt. • Poisonous gas will be given out when acrylic is overheated or burnt.

  10. Chloroform • They are in fact solvents for plastics. They are goods for joining acrylics or PVC.

  11. Chloroform

  12. Chloroform • Safety Notes • Ensure the working environment is well ventilated when gluing. • Some glues like the contact glue Chloroform and Tensol are highly inflammable. Do not use them near a fire. • Avoid contacting the glues with hands.
