  1. Wel ComeToSkill of Using Black Board

  2. Introduction • Black board or chalk board is visual aid, most widely used by teachers for class room instruction. • Skill of using black board is important because – • A good black board work brings about clarity in understanding the concepts. • The ideas are presented clearly without any ambiguity or irrelevance on the black board. • A good black board work gives whole picture of the lesson. • A skillfully used black board work adds variety to the lesson and draws attention of the pupils.

  3. General Points to Keep in Mind • Check the condition of the black board for its usability like smoothness. • Check the light-neither be too bright nor too dim. • Check whether blackboard is clear before and after the use. • Keep required amount of chalks and a duster. • Stand on one side of the blackboard and do not come in between the board and the pupils. • Use a pointer for explaining various points especially, that of a diagram. • Avoid squeezing noise of the chalk while writing. • Press the chalk while writing, in such a way that it does not strain your fingers but at the same time the writing should be bright. • Clean and erase the blackboard in such a way that it does not get filled with chalk dust, never use fingers to erase. • Avoid committing mistakes in the content written on the blackboard.

  4. Components of the Skill • Legibility of hand writing • Neatness in black board work • Appropriateness of work on the black board. • Continuity in the points • Brevity and simplicity • Drawing attention and focusing

  5. 1. Legibility of hand writing • Distinct difference between letters. Every letter should be distinct. • Spacing between letters and words should not be too little or too great. • Slantness of each letter should be closest to the vertical because it makes reading easier. • Size of the letters should be large enough to be read by the students of the last row. • Size of the capital letters should be just bigger than that of small letters, but not much exaggerated. • Sizes of the capital and small letters – all the capitals should be of the same size and all small letters should be of the same size. • Thickness of the lines should be in same width.

  6. 2. Neatness in Black Board WorkThe neatness of the black board work includes - • The words and sentences should be written in horizontal line. Parallel to the base of black board. • There should be adequate spacing between the lines. • There should not be over writing. • Relevant matter, which is to be focused during class room work should be retained on the black board.

  7. 3. Appropriateness of written work on the black boardThe content is of two types-letters/words/sentences and diagrams/illustrations. The appropriateness of the work includes continuity, brevity and simplicity, and drawing attention and focusing. • Continuity in the points: - There should be continuity in the points being presented on the black board. - The pupils will know how the lesson has been developed. - Continuity means a point should be logically related to the previous one.

  8. Brevity and simplicity: - While writing summary at the end of the lesson give only the salient points in the lesson, which form the gist. - Write in simple and clear language. • Drawing attention and focusing: - Underline the important points. - Use colored chalks to draw the pupils’ attention, for emphasizing some points or for bringing contrast with other matter being presented on the black board.

  13. Observation Schedule for the skill of Using Blackboard Class : VIII Sub : Science Unit : Circulatory System Teacher : Today we will learn about “The Circulatory System”. • It consists of The Blood • The Blood Vessels • The Heart • The Constituents of the blood are Plasma • Red Blood Corpuscles • The White Blood Corpuscles • There are three different types of Blood vessels – arteries, veins and capillaries. • The third and the most important part of the circulatory system is the heart.

  14. The Internal Structure of the Heart (The teacher draws the structure of the Heart) The Heart is divided into four chambers, they are • The Right Auricle • The Right Ventricle • The Left Auricle • The Left Ventricle The blood cannot flow from the right to the left side but it flows from the right auricle to the right ventricle through the Tricuspid Valve, and from the left auricle to the left ventricle through Bicuspid valve. The two veins – Superior vena cava and Inferior vena cava – brings the blood from the right ventricle to the lungs. There are four Pulmonary Veins – Which bring pure blood from the lungs to the left auricle. Aorta is the biggest artery which takes the pure blood to the different parts of the body.
