  1. Angle Relationships By Trudy Robertson

  2. When two lines intersect, they form a 360º angle, or a circle.

  3. Half of a circle is a straight line, or 180º.

  4. When two lines intersect, they form two pairs of opposite angles, A + C and B + D. Another word for opposite angles arevertical angles. Vertical angles are always EQUAL!

  5. Adjacent angles are anglesthat come out of the same vertex. Adjacent angles share a common ray and do not overlap.

  6. Two angles are said to be complementary when the sum of the two angles is 90°.

  7. Two angles are said to be supplementary when the sum of the two angles is 180°, or form a straight line.

  8. If we have two parallel lines and have a third line that crosses them as in the picture below - the crossing line is called a transversal

  9. When a transversal intersects with two parallel lines eight angles are produced.

  10. The eight angles will together form four pairs of corresponding angles. Angles1 and 5 constitutes one of the pairs. Corresponding angles are congruent.

  11. All angles that have the sameposition with regards to the parallel lines and the transversal are corresponding pairs e.g. 3 + 7, 4 + 8 and 2 + 6.

  12. Angles that are in the area between the parallel lines like angle D and E below are called interior angles whereas the angles that are on the outside of the two parallel lines like B and C are called exterior angles.

  13. Angles that are on the opposite sides of the transversal are called alternate angles e.g. D + E. All angles that are either alternate exterior angles, alternate interior angles, or corresponding angles are congruent.

  14. The picture above shows two parallel lines with a transversal. The angle 6 is 65°. Is there any other anglethat also measures 65°?

  15. 6 and 8 are vertical angles and are thus congruent which means angle 8 is also 65°.6 and 2 are corresponding angles and are thus congruent which means angle 2 is 65°.6 and 4 are alternate exterior angles and thus congruent which means angle 4 is 65°.

  16. What is the measure of angle 1? 32º

  17. What is the measure of angle 2? 32º

  18. What is the measure of angle 3? 148º

  19. Angles in Triangles The sum of the interior angles of a triangle is 180º.

  20. What is the measure of angle C? 57º

  21. What is the measure of angle y? 103º

  22. Now, let’s do some more practice on our own!
