  2. Trunk Highway 169/Interstate 494 Design-Build Project This Project Involves: • Reconstruction and reconfiguration of the interchange and adjacent local roads • Reconstruction of segments of Trunk Highway 169 and Interstate 494

  3. Trunk Highway 169/Interstate 494 Design-Build Project Utility Involvement • 17 different Utility • Companies • 3 Separate Cities involved • Estimated $16.5 Million in reimbursable utility relocations • Relocation of telephone facilities from adjacent CO that serves all 3 cities

  4. Utility Coordination on Design-Build Projects Design-Build Contracts • MnDOT’s main goals: • Utility Relocation will NOT cause any delays on Design-Build projects • Accurate location information on installed facilities

Utility Coordination on Design-Build Projects Roles and Responsibilities • Contractor is responsible for project design • Contractor has greater freedom and control to mitigate utility issues • MnDOT Utilities Unit oversees the Design-Build Contractor • MnDOT issues permits, approves individual work orders, accepts plans, and ensures the Design-Build Contractor adheres to the terms of the MUA and the appropriate process
