  1. Goth stereotypes: They are not what they seem. By: Raj Patel Kristin Meegan Kathryn Busby Anthony Bibbo

  2. Goth Culture • The Gothic Culture is indescribable because "Goth" means different things to each individual. • Many Goths may adapt the culture of dressing unusually to separate themselves from others. • Goths often wear Christian crosses or Christian crucifixes. • The Perception has grown that Goths are connected with Satin.

  3. Stereotypes Part I • Depressed • Violent • Suicidal • Users of illegal drugs • Believe themselves to be Vampires • Satanists • Most likely to become musicians, painters, and other artists. • Computer programmers • Wear black • Dye their hair • Users of white makeup

  4. Stereotypes Part II • Goths are not always depressed, but they act depressed to follow the stereotype or to attract attention. • The Stereotype that gothic people are violent or being suicidal is not completely true. The killings of Columbine High School was done by two Gothic Students; but this stereotype is false because the Virginia Tech shooting was done by a Japanese Male.

  5. Media • Columbine High School shooting • Dawson College in Montreal was gunned down by a Gothic man • Marilyn Manson increased Gothic fashion

  6. Professional Opinions • “Gothic people do not worship the devil”. • Taylor Shannon http://media.www.asuherald.com • “They are refined and sensitive, keen on poetry and books, not big on drugs or anti-social behavior. They are also likely to carry on being goths into their adult life”. • Denise Winterman http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/4828230.stm
