SOL: *We will appropriately apply the techniques of vehicle reference points to establish roadway position and vehicle placement. *We will utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to operate the vehicle and perform basic maneuvers in low risk environments Objectives: *I will understand the basic components of vision, and demonstrate an ability to visually synthesize information from the driving environment *I will utilize standard vehicle reference points to determine and execute lane placement, stopping position, and turning maneuvers * I will be able to demonstrate my understanding of Unit 1. Objectives: 10/2/2014
When you’re finished with the test, turn in your journals (5-8) and project to Mr. Markosky. While you’re waiting, answer the following questions on a scrap sheet of paper: 1. What are the 4 different types of braking? 2. Where does the line of sight pass (Reference Point) through on the vehicle when you are trying to get 6” from the curb to your front bumper? This is also known as front limitation. 3. Where does the line of sight pass (Reference Point) through on the vehicle when you are trying to get 6” from the curb to your rear bumper? This is also known as rear limitation. THIS IS AN INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNEMENT. IF DONE, PLEASE REMAIN QUITE WHILE OTHERS ARE TESTING. THANK YOU
Module 3 ~Entering the roadway/moving to the curb/backing~ ~Vision and perception~ ~Space management system/developing good habits~
Entering the Roadway/Moving to the Curb/BackingTopic #1 1. Steps to safely pull away from a curb. Foot firmly on the brake Release Parking brake Select proper gear Give proper signal Check traffic Select gap in traffic Move to proper lane 2. When entering the roadway from a curb, your target should be what? Lane position 1
Entering the Roadway/Moving to the Curb/BackingTopic #1 3. Proper Procedure for pulling to a curb. Check Traffic Signal Select Target Recheck Blind Zones Adjust Speed with control braking move gradually Use reference points to establish 6” from curb Cancel Signal Backing Up Procedure Question 4 (Answer: Pg. 123-124)
Vision and Perception topic 2
Vision and PerceptionTopic #2 1. The vision needed to read and identify distinct objects is called focal vision. This visual area is usually 3 to 5 degrees wide. 2. The area of vision needed to judge distance and determine position is central vision. The area is usually between 30 and 36 degrees in width 3. The Peripheral vision area is approximately 175-185 degrees wide and is needed to detect motion and color changes. Shoulder Partner Question 4
Vision and PerceptionTopic #2 5. Good visual habits involve establishing a path of travel with a targeted area 20seconds ahead of the vehicle. This is known as a visual lead. 6. When you are unable to see your target area ahead, you should reduce speed. 7. As the speed of a vehicle increases, central and peripheral vision decrease. 8. 2 second following distance = 35 mph 9. 3 second following distance = 45 mph 10. 4 second following distance = 65 mph 11. How do you calculate a 3 second following distance?
