  11. In English sentences, a person or an object being affected by an action or event may be emphasized. With such emphasis, the sentence takes a PASSIVE construction. You may be more familiar with Passive Voice.

  12. A passive construction takes the following form: NP 2 + V- BE + P.P. + (BY NP 1) A picture is being painted (by the boy).

  14. Forms of verb to be in passive voice vary according to different tenses. Present Simple takes: is am are
