  2. His Birth • Caspar Friedrich was born at Griefswald, Germany on September 5, 1774 • He started painting at a drawing academy from 1794 until 1798

  3. His First Paintings • Caspar’s first important painting was named “Crucifix in Mountain Scenery” which he did in 1807 • It became an altarpiece for the castle of Graf Thun soon after

  4. He Also Painted... • “Graveyard in the Snow in 1810 • “Two Men Contemplating the Moon” in 1819 • “Alpine Scenery” in 1828 • “Rest in a Hayfield” in 1835

  5. “I have to stay alone in order to fully contemplate and feel nature” Caspar David Friedrich • Caspar loved to paint about nature and would prefer to be alone while he was working • He eventually died in 1840 • He will always be remembered as one of the greatest romantic artists that ever lived
