Overview • In this course you will learn: • Login and Logoff of the PowerSchool Admin portal. • Navigate the Start Page, as well as other pages within PowerSchool • Conduct Searches and Using Search Commands • Using Compound Searches and Search Prefixes • Using Stored Searches and using Search Codes • How to use and enable Smart Search • Creating and using Log Entries • Printing a report for an Individual Student • Using Group Functions, such as Storing a Selection, Selecting Students by Hand, List Students, Print a Report, Print Mailing Labels, Quick Export, and Counselor’s Screen.

Even from home without having to install any computer programs.* * Please note that PowerTeacherGradebook requires Java 1.6 or 6.0 to be installed before the Gradebook will open.

Create a Desktop Shortcut Open the Power School website. Rightclick on the site. Select Create Shortcut. Select Yes.
Login Procedure - If this is your first time • Username;password • Example = sec1;psadmin • Username = Novell Username • Example = stewilson@richlandone.org, use the stewilson of your e-mail address. REMEMBER DO NOT SAVE YOUR PASSWORD • Go To http://pstest.richlandone.org/admin

Changing PasswordNote: only if you have not done so Use current network/computer password • Click on Personalize • Click on Change password
Changing Password • Enter old and new password • Click Submit
Enabling Smart Search Options • Select Personalize from the Left hand Main Menu • Select Interface, then Mark “Enable Smart Search”
Returning to Start page • Use “Bread Crumbs” • “Back Button” • Don’t Use the “Back Button”
Searching • Using the Search option (field/value) • PowerSchool stores student information in fields. For example: • "first_name" field stores the students' first names. • The "DOB" field stores the students' date-of-birth.
How to use Browse Students • Using the Browse Option – Click on one of the links to execute specific, single-criteria searches. • You can search by • First letter of Last Name • Grade level • Gender • Current Enrollment • Current Selection
Try for yourself: Search for… • …all student in the __ grade • …all the male students • … all the student whose last name begins with the letter ____ • Re-select the current selection • …all enrolled
Conducting Searches • Every search command line is broken into three parts: • field name - such as first_name or grade_level or DOB • comparator - such as = • search argument - in the example, Timothy is the search argument – what you are looking for. • The general format is: [field name] [comparator] [search argument ] *To see a list of field names, click View Field List under the Search area on the Start Page.
Field/Value Searching • Suppose you would like to find all of the students in your school whose last name is Smith. • Type the following into the search box: last_name=Smith [field name] [comparator] [search argument]
Searching Using “=” Search for all students with the last name of Smith Last_Name=Smith
Searching Using “=” Search for a student with the Student id number of: Apple Grove High School - 943 Cherry Hill Middle School– 7439 Washington Elementary– 3916 Student_Number=____
Field/Value Searching • Suppose you would like to find all of the students in your school whose first name is John.
Searching Using “in” Create a single list of students who are in: • Elementary, Middle, or High School. High School-grade_levelin9,10,11 Middle School-grade_levelin7,8 Elementary-grade_levelin3,4,5
Search Using “Contains” …all of the students in your school who live on State Road mailing_streetcontains State
Search Using “!Contain” Mother’s last name that does not include Smith mother !containsmith
Wild Card Searching “@” Search for a student whose first name starts with Jen first_name=jen@ Note: For SASI users the “@” replaces the SASI “*”
Wild Card Searching “@” Search for a student whose first or second last name has an “ER” present in the name. last_name=@er@
Searching Using AND “;” High School – search for all the boys in the 11th grade Middle School- Search for all the girls in the 8th grade Elementary School- Search for all the girls in the 6th grade grade_level=11;gender=m grade_level=8;gender=f grade_level=6;gender=f grade_level=2;gender=m
¨ Displaying Inactive students – “/” • Include non-active students. • Use this “/” prefix to search across ALL students (ie, active and inactive). • Example /Last_Name=Smith
How to Search by Birthday • To find a student or students that have a birthday on a specified date, use the *birthday search code. This code is always preceded with an asterisk. • Birthdays (today)*birthday=today
Selecting Students by Hand • Use this if you want to select more than one student on the list

How to Store Frequently Used Search Commands • You can store frequently-used searches instead of entering the same search command every time that you need to work with a particular group of students. • After a search is stored, ALLOTHER USERS on the same Power School server can use all the stored searches listed on the stored search page.
Stored Searches • From the Start Page, click on Stored Searches • Click New.
Stored Searches • Enter a Name for the stored search • Enter the search command - just as you would in the Search Student's field on the Power School start page. • Click submit. 1 2 3
Log Entries = Discipline • On the student’s screen • Select Log Entries under the Administration section of the Main Menu bar.
