  1. Los adjetivos demostrativos Demonstrative Adjectives

  2. Demonstrative adjectives are words that describe where certain nouns are located in relation to the person speaking and the person listening.

  3. These are used when the noun is closer to the speaker: Often indicated by the word…..aquí (here) este (this) estos (these) esta (this) estas (these)

  4. These are used when the noun is closer to the listener: Often indicated by the word…..allí (there) ese (that) esos (those) esa (that) esas (those)

  5. These are used when the noun is away from both speaker and listener: Often indicated by the word…..allá (over there) aquel (that) aquellos (those) aquella (that) aquellas (those)

  6. Examples • Esta clase es muy interesante. This class is very interesting. • Esas chicas son feas. Thosegirls are ugly. • Aquel hombre está desnudo. That guy is naked. Whereas most adjectives come after the noun in Spanish, Demonstrative Adjectives always come before the nouns as in English.

  7. Demonstrative Pronouns These use the same forms, alone, without the noun. They are sometimes accentuated: éste (this one) ése (that one) aquel (that one)

  8. Unknown Objects.... • Esto, eso, aquello are used with an unidentified object. ¿Qué es esto? What is this? ¿Por qué quieres eso? Why do you want that?
