  3. Welcome to Year 4 Behaviour Expectations • Independence • Responsibility for own actions and belongings • Rewards • Praise • H.I.P.s • Star cards – house points • Good Choice and ‘Marbles’ • Sanctions • Verbal warnings • Timeout room • (Ill or injured children may also use the timeout room)

Maths • Grouping the children – Classses. • New Curriculum • Focus on: Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning. • Sumdog / Online homework • How you can help: times tables, doubling and halving, place value (money), number bonds. • Parent Calculation Evening • Calculation policy on the school website – outlines methods taught in school

  6. English • Reading – variety of genres/texts guided reading sessions reading at home Reading Diary • Writing - developing range of skills editing and improving work

  7. International Primary Curriculum • Brainwave • Anglo – Saxons • Active Planet • Bright Sparks • Rainforests • Living Together – local history • Shaping Up

Welcome to Year 4 Homework • Reading at least 3 times a week. • Please sign Reading Diary and discuss children’s books with them to ensure understanding. • Number Facts – e.g. times tables • Spelling newsletter with rules • Homework is set on a weekly basis (30-40 mins). • Same standard of presentation as expected at school • Alternating between Maths and another subject. (Eg. One week general, next week Maths). • Homework to be handed in a week after it is set. • If a child gets homework in on time they receive a homework certificate at the end of each term. • Starz

  9. Welcome to Year 4 Parent Consultations • Consultations are scheduled for: • Autumn – 15th, 19thand 21st October • Spring - TBA • To get an appointment, sign up on the list in the hall. • Meetings at other times.

  10. Welcome to Year 4 EVENTS • We will invite you to a number of open days throughout the year for you to come and look at your child’s work. • Date for your diary – 8th and 10th December Year 4 performance

Welcome to Year 4 A few helpful reminders • Curriculum outline sent home termly • School website - www.histonimpington-jun.cambs.sch.uk • The Newsletter is published every Friday (copy on website and parent mail). • PE kit should be brought in on a Monday and taken home on a Friday. • PE kit items (no studs on PE days or own tape please) • All items of clothing need labelling. • PE T-shirts should be in the correct house colour. • Hair tied back for PE and out of the eyes for learning in classroom. • Water bottles need to be labelled and kept water tight. • No jewellery / nail varnish / transfer tattoos • Recorders • Own handwriting pen welcomed (no Biro, must be black)

  12. Welcome to Year 4 A few helpful reminders • We need sensible sized school bags. • If absent please ring office that morning. If you are delayed at the end of the day, please let the office know. • Fruit tuck shop is on Fridays - 20p. • Bikes – Spaces are first come, first served. All bikes must be locked. • Please drop off / pick up children away from the school drive to keep the entrance safe. • Bed times!
