    1. Application Portfolio Build a portfolio of application classes for path to petascale Numerical approaches for example, extending MD, extending intra-cellular phenomena to organ scale and beyond Data intensive such as comparative analysis including genotype and phenotype comparison Combinatorial, network conservation and phylogeny, functional correlations

    2. Evaluation Criteria Science impact Demonstrated plausibility for petascale (back of envelope) Will need investment in algorithms and models Risk portfolio (low, medium, high)

    3. Collaboration and Training Foster multidisciplinary teams: Specialized RFPs for assessment development “shallow end of the pool” Summer institute , focused workshops (some for early exploration problems) Advertise widely to all federally funded comp bio including (beyond NSF) NIH, DOE etc. Comp Bio HPC postdoc RFP for BIO HPC/parallel algorithm development – colaborate with other directorates, for example CISE and Nano RFP for HPC/BIO data integration -- joint DDDAS and BIO

    4. Infrastructure BIO and CISE to increase investment in people and software applications development Emphasize NSF-wide need to develop a model, paradigm, for making software solutions robust, maintainable, reusable software, staff support not graduate, software support Explore inter or cross agency coordination to address funding for Application Services, libraries, runtime/programming environments
