Castle Learning • Castle Learning uses field-tested questions, with hints, reasons, defined vocabulary terms, and assessment reports for individual students or for a whole class. • A large database of field-tested questions taken from the New York State Education Standards, which allows students and teachers to create question-based review sessions addressing specific content areas.

  16. Assessment Reports • Assessment reports are cumulative reports that are based on either an assignment or a course. • Provide a breakdown of student performance by categories such as unit, section, theme, level and attribute. • Allows you to select what you would like included in report before you generate this report.

  17. Classes • First step in using Castle Learning • Cannot assign or monitor students if this step is not complete • Can create classes by any grouping that you personally want to. • IE Class, Achievement…

  18. Castle Learning URL ID/Email = ID = prefix + dash + first name initial no space last full name Example – PTMS-tjarvis or your school email Password = either the default Password or the one that you created after first log in.

  19. Click on the Classes tab from the home page to get started. Your classes must be created first to then add students to and then create assignments for. Click on Add Class to create a class. To add a class, type in a Class Name then select a Primary Course from the drop down menu If your Primary Course is not available, then select Custom

  20. To add students to a class… Click on the class name. Say Yes to the prompt . Search for students and place a checkmark in the box on the left side of their name then click on Add Checked Students.

  22. To create an Assignment… Click on Assignments from the Home Page Give your new assignment a name, then click on Create New Short Answer Assignment. If there are no questions attached to this assignment, then click on Add Questions. If you need to add questions to an existing assignment, then select Modify Assignment.

  23. To add questions to your Assignment… Make sure the pink Create Questions tab is selected. Select a Unit and Section by placing a checkmark in the box on the left. Click on the Plus Sign to display more options. Click on the blue word Standards to review the standards for these questions. Questions can be browsed by difficulty level, themes, attributes, standards and vocabulary. To add questions, either browse all questions that match the criteria that you defined – or – have Castle Learning randomly select these questions for you.

  24. To add questions to an Assignment… Place a checkmark in the open box next to the ID of the questions you want to select then… Click on Done.

  25. To Assign your session to Students… Review all questions selected, add more questions, remove any questions or reorder any questions… - then – click on the Assign To Students tab.

  26. To Assign your session to Students… • From the Assign To Students Pink Tab on the top, place a checkmark next to the name of each student that you want to assign this session to • Then – • Select the Assignment Mode

  28. To see your sessions in the same way that your students will “see” them… • Click on Student Home Page from the Home Page • Click on Mrs. Jarvis’ Class (your name)from the Home Page • Find the Course that you created your session in • then – • Click on the Activity

  29. Confirm the Date Assigned Then click on the Description to open up the session screen.

  30. Teachers can now see the session as it appears for their students. This can be projected through a projector for full class review and can used with the Smart Notebook Software.
