  2. What is Virginia FCCLA? It is the ultimate leadership experience! In Virginia, 10,000 students, in nearly 290 chapters, are members of this exciting organization.

  4. MissionThe mission of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is to promote personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through – • character development, • creative and critical thinking, • interpersonal communication, • practical knowledge, and • career preparation.

The Purposes of FCCLA • To provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life. • To strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society. • To encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community. • To encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony. • .

Purposes Continued • To promote greater understanding between youth and adults. • To provide opportunities for making decisions and for assuming responsibilities. • To prepare for the multiple roles of men and women in today's society. • To promote family and consumer sciences and related occupations.

  8. Career Connection is a national FCCLA program that guides young people to link their options and skills for success in careers, families, and communities.   10. The FCCLA Community Service program guides students to develop, plan, carry out, and evaluate projects that improve the quality of life in their communities. FCCLA members turn youth concerns into leadership and action to improve local communities.

  11. Families First is a national FCCLA peer education program through which young people gain a better understanding of how families work and learn skills to become strong family members. Families Today You-Me-Us Meet the Challenge Balancing Family & Career Parent Practice

Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety FACTS – Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety, is a national FCCLA peer education program through which young people strive to save lives through sober driving, seat belt use, and safe driving habits.   15. Leaders at Work is a national program that recognizes FCCLA members who create projects to strengthen leadership skills on the job. Career Areas *Early Childhood Education, and Services *Food Production and Services *Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation *Housing, Interiors, and Furnishings *Textiles and Apparel *Family and Consumer Sciences Education

STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and occupational preparation. Events are divided into three categories: Leadership - these allow FCCLA members to expand on what they are doing in the classroom by providing service to their communities, strengthening their own local chapters, and implementing national programs.

  17. Foundational - events that apply content learned in Family & Consumer Sciences classes. • Career Preparation- allow for a hands-on demonstration of career and technical skills learned in Family & Consumer Sciences courses as they apply to future employment in one of our occupational areas.

  18. STOP the Violence—StudentsTaking on Prevention empowers youth with attitudes, skills, and resources to recognize, report, and reduce youth violence. A peer-to-peer outreach initiative that empowers young people to RECOGNIZE REPORT REDUCE the potential for youth violence.

  19. Dynamic Leadership is a component of each national FCCLA program that helps young people build leadership skills. • Members master six essentials of leadership • Model good character • Solve problems • Foster positive relationships • Manage conflict • Build teams • Educate peers

  20. Here’s an opportunity to live in Japan next summer with a Japanese host family. You can be one of 17 FCCLA members selected to experience a Japanese tea ceremony, traditional Japanese foods, or climb up Mount Fuji with a Japanese brother or sister. Japanese Exchange Program Members have an opportunity to live in Japan next summer with a Japanese host family. Full scholarships available for FCCLA members who are sophomores and juniors in high school
