The Map- traditional or… • they can lead to different destinations: places turned upside down or inside out, territories riddled with marks understood only by their maker, realms connected more to the interior mind than to the exterior world. These are the places of artists' maps, that happy combination of information and illusion that flourishes in basement studios and downtown galleries alike..

  3. Maps-functional or not We’ll see some modern artist maps as well as some old maps that have a functional element but are highly creative. Think about how your map will be.

  5. Dahlia Elsayed The artist says that this was her life in the month of August

  6. Life in Los Angeles This 1971 map plats the ethnicity of the inhabitants, their income and their stress level

  7. Howard Howrowitz-Map of Manhattan 1997 It took him well over a year to compose the poem that makes up this map

  8. Edwin Morgan- “chaffinch” This map of Scotland documents the regional name variants for this bird .

  9. Kathy Pendergrast- “Lost” This map of the US lists only the cities , rivers , lakes and other geographic elements that have the word “lost” in their name.
