Our Vision for our school… • Each student can achieve at high levels. • Each student wants to learn and all parents want their child to be successful in school. • It is our goal to focus our instruction so each student is a priority. • We must put a spotlight on our at-risk students as we plan our instruction in order to shrink the achievement gap. • Our instruction must be based on high rigor, positive relationships, student engagement and preparing the 21st century learner. • We are here for the students. Our decisions must be student focus. • We are in this together – we all learn from each other and support the goals of every class. We do not work in isolation.

  7. A Day in the Life of a 6th Grader… • 7 Different Teachers • 53 minute class periods • Change for PE • Lunchtime • Advisory • Schoolview • Attendance • Grades • Discipline • Testing results • Report cards • Teacher Websites

Advisory Class • Providing students with the opportunity for personal/social and academic growth. • Some subjects that are covered are… • Bullying • Gossiping • Organization • Accountability • Goal-setting * This is a time for students to learn more about themselves and for their teachers to get to know their students better*

  10. MS 101 – addition to Social Studies • How to be a successful middle school student: • Organization (use of a planner) • Study Skills – looks different for each class • Note taking • Self advocate • Academic focus • Collaboration • Flexibility/multi- tasking

  11. Honors Curriculum What does it mean to be in honors? • Higher reading level of text • Greater in depth of study • More rigorous assignments • Greater amount of outside work • Higher level of self-study

Career & College Readiness In grades 6-8 Ramp-Up to Readiness lessons emphasize helping student develop clear and compelling goals for life after high school and to understand that the effort they exert today will greatly affect their ability to achieve those goals tomorrow. Sixth Grade Focus: What are my interests & talents? Exploring Personality Types (Holland’s Code- Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional) Academic, Personal, Career, & College SMART goals
