Philosophy of SCIS • Sloan Creek Intermediate School will be a bridge between elementary school and middle school. SCIS will build a solid foundation for all students so they may thrive and grow to be productive learners in a safe and age appropriate environment.

Nuts & Bolts • Our school day will be from 7:45 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. • Doors will open at 7:05 for breakfast, the CAT & other waiting areas will be open at 7:15. • Attendance will be taken 1st period. • Every student will have a locker and learn how to use it. • Students will receive Guidance lessons from the Counselor. • Grade levels will be grouped in close proximity to each other. • Supply Packets will be available soon and the supplies on the list will be used.
Nuts & Bolts - Cafeteria • Breakfast – will be served 7:05 – 7:40 daily and a menu will be sent out each month. • Lunch – menu will be sent out each month • 3 Lines • Home Line - Market Fresh Salad Bar offered everyday along with another entrée • Italian Line – Italian entrée and pizza • Grill Line – variety of sandwiches • 3 lunches • 5th Grade – 10:58 – 11:28 • 6th Grade – 11:45 – 12:15 • 6th Grade – 12:32 – 1:02
A Typical 5th Graders Day • 4 core subjects – meet daily • Math – 90 minutes • Language Arts -90 minutes • Social Studies – 45 minutes • Science - 45 minutes • Specials Rotation – 2 - 45 minute sections a day with a rotation schedule. • PE • General Music • Art • Spanish • STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Integration • Lunch – 30 minutes (1 for entire grade level) • Recess – 15 minutes • GT Classes offered: The amount of time in each class will be the same as the other core classes. • Math • Language Arts • Social Studies
A Typical 6th Graders Day • 4 core subjects • Math – 90 minutes • Language Arts -90 minutes • Social Studies – 45 minutes • Science - 45 minutes • Electives - 2 - 45 minute sections a day • PE & Elective Rotation (A/B Day) • Elective Rotation: Art, STEM – (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math), Spanish • Choice: Band, Orchestra, Choir (will attend everyday) • Lunch – 30 minutes (2 for the grade level) • Recess – 15 minutes • GT Classes offered: The amount of time in each class will be the same as the other core classes. • Math • Language Arts • Social Studies • Science

Events & Support for ALL • Center for Academic Training – “CAT” – a place where students can go and get help with homework or class work during or after school. • Class Parties – Christmas, Valentine’s & End Of Year • Thanksgiving Feast during lunch • Field Day • Game Nights – Students will come to school and play volleyball, basketball, karaoke, board games, video games,& more! • Student Celebrations
Field Trips 5th Grade 6th Grade Collin County Adventure Camp – October 21 – 23, 2013. Enterprise City Art to Go Perot Museum Lock In – an overnight adventure to the Perot Museum – Date TBD Hawaiian Falls
Meet & Greets • For Incoming 6th Graders… • Fine Arts Demonstration – Tuesday, April 30th from 9:20 – 11:20. • The purpose of this demonstration is to learn about the orchestra, band, and choir programs to help students make an informed decision about their fine arts choice. • Parents are welcome to attend this event. • Walk the Creek – a student tour and lunch at SCIS • Incoming 5th & 6th Graders – May 24, 2013 • Meet the Teacher & Supply Drop Off • August 22, 2013
Registration • Incoming 5th graders will not have a registration process. • Incoming 6th Graders will receive their Registration paper on April 30th. It will be DUE to their homeroom teacher by Friday, May 3, 2013.
