  2. L Holy God, holy and mighty, holy and immortal, • C have mercy and hear us. Our Father, who art in heaven, • hallowed be thy name, • thy kingdom come, • thy will be done, • on earth as it is in heaven. • Give us this day our daily bread; • and forgive us our trespasses, • as we forgive those who trespass against us; • and lead us not into temptation, • but deliver us from evil. • For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, • forever and ever. Amen WORSHIP

  3. C . I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen Worship - 2

  4. L Show us your mercy, O Lord, C and grant us your salvation. L Clothe your ministers with righteousness. C Let your people sing with joy. L Give peace, O Lord, in all the world; C for only in you can we live in safety. L Lord, keep this nation under your care, C and guide us in the way of justice and truth. L Let your way be known upon earth; C your saving health among all nations. L Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten, C nor the hope of the poor be taken away. L Create in us clean hearts, O God, C and sustain us with your Holy Spirit. L The Lord be with you. C And also with you. Worship - 3

  5. L We give thanks to you, heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ your dear Son, that you have this day so graciously protected us. We beg you to forgive us all our sins and the wrong which we have done. By your great mercy defend us from all the perils and dangers of this night. Into your hands we commend our bodies and souls, and all that is ours. Let your holy angels have charge of us, that the wicked one have no power over us. C Amen L Let us bless the Lord.   7. The Ten Commandments: The Simple Way a Father Should Present Them to His Household The Third Commandment: You must keep the Sabbath holy. Q. What does this mean? A. We must fear and love God, so that we will not look down on preaching or God's Word, but consider it holy, listen to it willingly, and learn it. Discussion & reflection:

  8. Exodus 20:8 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day.   9. Psalm 34: 1I will bless the LORD at all times;his praise shall continually be in my mouth.2My soul makes its boast in the LORD;let the humble hear and be glad.3Oh, magnify the LORD with me,and let us exalt his name together! Can we have good times by ourselves? Discussion & reflection:

  10. Thinking of the best times of our lives were we alone? Humans are a social animal, needing to interact with others. Try to explain why or why not this is also true in our relationship with God. Turn to your neighbor and explain this. Discussion & reflection:

  11. If an evil empire closed every single church, the remaining Christians would start their churches all over again. No amount of persecution has ever killed the church. No political ruler, like Roman Emperor Trajan, nor violent Viking or Moslem raiders ever stopped the church from meeting. The Holy Spirit draws us together with each other (horizontal) and the whole Church together in worship to and with our God (vertical). If we are not among those drawn together (when we could be there), then we have said “no” to the Holy Spirit. Discussion & reflection:

John 4: 31Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, "Rabbi, eat." 32But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you do not know about." 33So the disciples said to one another, "Has anyone brought him something to eat?" 34Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. 35Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, then comes the harvest'? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37For here the saying holds true, 'One sows and another reaps.' 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor." Discussion & reflection:

  13. It may not look like it, but the church is a little like heaven. The local church is certainly not perfect, but the assembly of disciples helps us think what heaven will be like. How, using our spiritual gifts, can we help our local congregation look a little more like heaven? Turn to your neighbor and explain. Discussion & reflection:

  14. God will one day bring us home together forever. Baptism was the first step towards home. Jesus was born, lived and taught, died and ascended so we could come home safely. Our God wants to enjoy us in heaven, and church is just the beginning of heaven! Discussion & reflection:

Hebrews 10:19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.   16. A Christian community is a worshipping community. Not worshipping takes us outside the Christian community. Or did you think that your church membership made you a member of the community? Our daily task is to help our brother and sister Christians be better Christians. Their job is to help us too! We are to “provoke” each other to good deeds. The first level of good deeds is helping each other come to worship, because worship is square one in our faith life. Discussion & reflection:

JulianusPomerius(c. 497) “Hence it is, too, that fasting, abstinence, nightly vigils, churchgoing, and the chanting of psalms, although all these things are done not without effort, are undertaken even with pleasure by such as wish to please men thereby. This of course does not imply that men of God do not also do these things; but that those who desire fervently to excel also in holy morals are known to present them to God rather than to men.” Discussion & reflection:

  18. The third commandment completes the First Table of the 10 Commandments. The First Table talks about our relationship with our God. The Second Table, commandments 4-10, talk about our relationship with each other . The Second table is based on the First Table. That means that the fourth commandment is based on the first commandment, etc. Discussion & reflection:

  19. The third commandment then says that we worship our God because He is our God. Not to worship says the exact opposite, that He is not our God. What we do instead of our Christian worship, is our pagan worship. Please describe your worship life and say who is your god. Discussion & reflection:
