Basic Information Static electricity or electrostatic discharge is a rapid and unexpected flow of electricity between two charged objects caused by contact through an electrical short which can result in an explosion causing serious damage to the surroundings and the human operator. A static charge up to hundreds of volts can lead to massive and permanent damage to the industrial equipment in the manufacturing facilities.  An antistatic garment can protect the operator as well as the machinery from these voltage spikes and ensure a healthy and smooth working environment in the facility. Static electricity can be generated from different types of substances and elements such as oil, paper and rubber. Care must be taken especially in environments consisting of flammable substances like chemicals and oils. Facilities or industries working with Oil, natural gas and chemicals must ensure the use of antistatic garments to maintain the safety of the surrounding equipment and the human operators. 

  3. Basic Information • An antistatic garment is generally made up of a conductive material that transfers the static charge from the antistatic cloth to the ground. These garments are made up of carbon thread or polyester that has high tensile strength and elasticity. There is no lint and the static charge is dissipated efficiently. These garments are comfortable to wear and are extremely light in weight which allows the operators to move properly and work efficiently.  • There are other factors apart from the antistatic garment that needs attention as well such as the material used to make employee uniforms, workstation towels, carpeting and cleaning supplies. These objects and materials can also generate fluff that can result in electrostatic discharge. To ensure a healthy working environment for the workers and the equipment, it is necessary to organize annual electrostatic safety audits to ensure that the facilities are complying with the safety plan.
