What two energy sources power the earth system? Weather and Climate power the earth system
How humans are a part of the earth system • The atmosphere is getting polluted • Hydrosphere is melting (ice and global warming) • Troposphere is affected and life is decreasing rapidly
5 step formation of the solar system • The birth of our solar system (big bang) • Solar system begins rotating • Cools down and forms into rocks • Asteroids form from dust clouds • Asteroids stop and begin rotating and become planets
How the earths core and crust formed • Nebular debris and decay of radioactive elements caused our planets temperature to increase • Molten masses accumulated into crust forming our earths crust
Earths crustal material • Earths mantle is found 1800 miles below our feet • Earths oldest crustal material is 4.4 billion years old
Major principle divisions • Earths two main divisions are made up of ocean basins and continents • Three regions of the ocean floor consist of deep canyons, plateaus, and volcanoes
3 portions of the continental margins • Continental shelf- gentle slope platform of material • Continental slope- boundary between continents and deep ocean basins • Continental rise- steep continental slope merges into a more gradual incline known as accumulations
