As oil prices rise, so do food prices. Already there are food riots in some parts of the planet. People need to claim their inherent right-and responsibility-for growing the food they wish to eat, in a healthful, natural way.
In our current system, much food goes to waste while some members of society cannot afford to purchase good food.
Latino day laborers hang out on street corners hopefully waiting for work, while most North Americans are too busy and exhausted to garden.
the unhealthy dependence on both, foreign and domestic oil continues.
Factory farms contribute more pollution to the environment than cars do.
Over 1,000,000 acres of farmland are disappearing from america every year
Collaborating with Marin Organic, Regenerative Design Institute and Post Carbon Marin, we will create new organic gardens in Marin County that will provide us with sustainability- or true Homeland Security-through local sources of food.
Through educating as many local residents as possible, we will increase awareness of Peak Oil and the unnatural practices of agribusiness.
We plan to create a school of Organic Gardening- La Escuela de Jardineria Organica-for spanish speaking day laborers, who will be given financial support through scholarships and stipends. In this way, we will get them off the streets and provide them with a useful purpose and occupation.
We plan to create a Bounty Hunters program, similar to Petaluma Bounty’s, so as to redistribute excess food to people in need.
We will preserve open spaces in marin county “ in perpetuity”, thus protecting them form destruction by development.
Educational outreach Staff and volunteers will distribute literature and teach daily classes about the food crisis.the classes will include organic gardening as a viable solution.
We will educate farm workers in both Spanish and English in the theory and hands on practices of organic farming, gardening and edible landscaping.
We will host monthly community potlucks and celebrations to promote human health through delicious, healthful nutrition.
