Introduction • We will cover • Nitrox basics • Dalton’s Law • Pressure ‘T’
Basics • Air • Oxygen 21% • Nitrogen 79% • Other gases <1% • Nitrox mixes • DNA • EAN
Dalton’s Law Dalton’s Law states: ‘in a mixture of gases each gas exerts a partial pressure in proportion to it’s percentage in the mixture’ • Determines gas in mix • Remaining gas in mix E.g. In air pPO2 = 0.21 In EAN32 pPO2 = 0.32
pPg Fg P The Pressure ‘T’ • P = Pressure • Fg = Decimal fraction gas in mix • pPg = Partial Pressure gas pPg = Fg x P Fg = pPg/P P = pPg / Fg
Pressure ‘T’ Example: Oxygen in EAN36 filled to 200 bar? Fg = 0.36 P = 200 pPg = 0.36 x 200 pPg = 72 bar of oxygen
