PARTICIPANT APPLICATION ***TURN IN APPLICATION IN THE CPH, OR E-MAIL TO kelly.tobakos@vanderbilt.edu BY 5pm ON November 12th*** SITE PREFERENCES Please rank each site from 1-5, with 1 being your first choice and 5 being your last choice. NOTE: There is no guarantee you will get your first choice, but we will try to be as accommodating as possible. ___Newland, North Carolina Newland/Avery County is located in the mountains of Western North Carolina. It is in close proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail - volunteers get free admission to the Grandfather Mountain attractions! Participants will help to build a home, and have various opportunities to connect with the Avery County community. There will also be plenty of time to enjoy the breathtaking Carolina mountains. ___Athens, Georgia Athens is an amazing town filled with history, music, and a bustling downtown. During the day, volunteers will help to eliminate substandard housing in the Athens area through the ReNew Athens project. During their downtime, participants will be able to explore this exciting college town. ___Charleston, South Carolina Charleston HFH provides simple, green, & affordable homeownership & home repair opportunities for local families in need. One in five families in Charleston live in poverty. In North Charleston, it's one in four families. Safe & affordable housing is a huge need in the community! Please come serve with Habitat in Charleston & you will also enjoy the beach, rich history and architecture, & perfect climate in March! ___Jacksonville, FloridaThe city of Jacksonville is the largest city land-wise in the US, and is home to many families in need of affordable housing. While serving with Habitat, participants will get to work alongside partner families and AmeriCorps members on projects such as new building, rehabbing, or providing exterior home renovation for a current homeowner. Participants can spend their free time on the beach in nearby St. Augustine soaking up all the city has to offer! ___New Orleans (Mandeville), LouisianaThis site is located 40 minutes north of New Orleans and supports the Mandeville, Covington, and Abita Springs communities. They will be developing a brand new community in conjunction with Volunteers of America called the Groves at Mile Branch. You do not have to have previous Habitat or community service experience to be a strong candidate. • Describe one or more service experiences which are of particular importance to you. If you don’t have any service experience, please explain your interest in getting involved. • 2. Why is Habitat Spring Break a good fit for you? Describe any qualities, characteristics, or experiences that will help illustrate your response. • Please briefly discuss the reasons for your site rankings, particularly your top choices.
