WHY REPORTING? • Statutory obligation – Minerals (Prospecting and Mining) Act, 1992 • Update minerals database • Compile quarterly reports • Disseminate information to stakeholders- BON,IAEA,ILZSG • Determine performance of individual company • National accounts (GDP, Budgeting & export earnings)
FAILURE TO COMPLY • Shall be guilty of an offence and on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding N$ 8 000 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding 12 month or to both fine and imprisonment, Sec 101 (4).
PROBLEMS/CHALLENGES • No/Incomplete or late submission of returns • Labour, production, opening & closing stock • Under or no declaration of both mass and value • Inconsistence in mass units • Usage of wrong form • Duplication of returns • Gender aspect
PROBLEMS/CHALLENGES CONT… • Inaccessibility of certain mining areas • Unavailability of key staff at mines site during verification/visit • Constantly changing figures, create confusion • Incomplete reports based on provisional data
CONCLUSION • We urge you all to comply with the provisions of the act to provide reliable and accurate data to make our sector a reliable sector. • Always make use of the right forms to submit the data.
