“Readiness to Change Survey “- a survey to determine employers’ and employees’ readiness to adopt value-based benefit strategies
“Community Leader for Value-Driven Health Care” – promoting transparency
8. Why conduct a Pharmacy Benefits Academy? Most employers and health plans offer pharmacy benefits to prevent or reduce the debilitating impact of acute conditions and chronic conditions, and prevent unnecessary hospital and medical costs
Purchasers have seen the cost of drugs become a greater portion of their benefit budgets, especially specialty – biotech drugs
Most employers are relying more frequently on a range of providers, plans, PBMs, DM firms and others to assist in designing and managing the benefit, often without appropriate due diligence or monitoring
Cost containment and cost-sharing approaches have their place, but research is showing how cost can be a barrier to improved health
9. Why conduct a Pharmacy Benefits Academy? “Value” and “evidence” based benefit designs are being promoted as ways to change behavior and motivate better decision-making
Transparency has become a key term in defining relationships and contracts
Medicare Part D has brought a new set of challenges and decisions for employers
Pharmacies that offer primary care clinics are a new provider seeking purchaser and plan contracts
Genetics is making personalized drugs a reality
T0 manage the benefit effectively, a foundation of knowledge on multiple topics is required
10. MBGH & Pharmacy Outcome Specialists (POS) MBGH recognized the need for an intensive “course” to provide purchasers with the skills and knowledge to design, select, contract, manage and monitor pharmacy benefits
MBGH member POS recognized the need to assist its employer and health plan clients and sought out the coalition as a partner
We joined forces to create the PBA, intended as an annual event
11. Pharmacy Outcome Specialists Specialists in…
Pharmacy Benefit Manager audits and contract renewals
Chain Pharmacy reimbursement audits
Fraud, waste and abuse programs for Medicare Part D Plan Sponsors
