SLO Assessment Analysis Workshop Agenda • Why we’re collecting analysis data/reports and what we’re doing with it • Looking at forms for reporting assessment, analysis and continuous improvement • Discuss how to “close the loop”: talking about assessment data and using that data for continuous improvement

Why we’re collecting data and what we’re doing with it • Need to demonstrate to ACCJC/WASC that we are moving into Stages 3 and 4 (Proficiency and Sustainable Continuous Quality Improvement) • Over the next 6 years, your department will be conducting assessments of EVERY SLO for EVERY Course you offer at least once in the 6-year cycle. • REPORTING TEMPLATES TO DOCUMENT PROGRESS TO ACCJC/WASC • Assessment Study Plan • Assessment Analysis Report

  5. Why we’re collecting data and what we’re doing with it **These reports are being collected to demonstrate compliance, not to evaluate individual instructor performance/department performance. The results are solely to IMPROVE STUDENT LEARNING!**

Assessment Study Plan • Should be filled out at the start of the semester that the assessment will be conducted. • EVERY department will be turning in at least ONE Assessment Study Plan to Devon by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9TH via email. • Did you do an assessment in Fall 2008 but no Assessment Study Plan? • Fill one out now and turn in to Devon ASAP • NOTES on the Assessment Study Plans • First Time?: Don’t worry about Benchmark • List of Instructors: include names of those who teach the course and who will be conducting the assessment (should be everyone who teaches the course!) Handout: Assessment Study Plan

Assessment Analysis Report • Should be filled out after your department has conducted the assessment and after your department has met to discuss the results and next steps • Form allows your department to demonstrate “closing the loop” and will help you make changes for next time the assessment is conducted • NOTES on the Assessment Analysis Reports • First Time?: Don’t worry about Benchmark • List of Instructors: include names of those who teach the course and who will be conducting the assessment (should be everyone who teaches the course!) • Attachments: Don’t forget to attach actual assessment tool Handout: Assessment Analysis Report

  8. “Closing the Loop”: What does your department need to do this semester and beyond?? • DURING THIS FLEX WEEK: • Discuss what course(s) you will be conducting Assessments in. • Discuss what SLO(s) you will be assessing in the course(s) you selected. • Design your Assessment Tool. • Design the Rubric you will use to grade your Assessment Tool. • Fill out the Assessment Study Plan and turn in to Devon by MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9TH via email.

  9. “Closing the Loop”: What does your department need to do this semester and beyond?? • DURING THIS SEMESTER: • Conduct the Assessment(s) in your selected class(es). • Each instructor will send their anonymous student data to the Department SLO Coordinator to compile data on Assessment Results. • Your department will schedule a meeting to take place (probably during the next Flex Week) where instructors can come together and analyze results.

  10. “Closing the Loop”: What does your department need to do this semester and beyond?? • DURING THE ASSESSMENT ANALYSIS MEETING: • Instructors should discuss and analyze what the data revealed about your students’ achievement of the outcome(s) you assessed. Questions to discuss: • Did students perform as well as we hoped? Why or why not? What can we do to help students better achieve this SLO? • Does our assessment study need to be changed in any way? Our rubric? If so, how? • Does our SLO need to be modified in any way (i.e. does our SLO say what we’re really interested in assessing?) • What do we recommend for the next time this assessment is conducted and when will we conduct this again? • The Department SLO Coordinator will fill out the Assessment Analysis Report and submit to Devon.
