  1. IFIC analysis (5L PS with Bbfit)Phone callAWG 04 June 2010 Juan Pablo Gómez, Paco Salesa, Salvatore Mangano

  2. OUTLINE OUTSTANDING QUESTIONS • The factor 2 in Aeff with all relevant plots updated • Discrepancy in discovery potential needs to be understood • Event by event comparison of relevant quantities • Check that the proper run-start is used for the event time computation • Provide tables of "the relevant data (effective area, atm neutrino flux, and signal flux)“ • Check that you always use the visibility for the 90 deg. cut in the acceptance computation, even when cutting at 80 degrees in the analysis • Include in the documentation which systematics will be applied. Including the one for the angular resolution • Include a description of the final treatment of the 10pe period and whether any overall scaling is applied to Aeff • Include in the documentation a description of which p-values will be computed and how 5Lines Analysis Juan Pablo Gómez-González

  3. EFFECTIVE AREA Effective Area  factor 2 included Effective area as a function of the neutrino energy Optimized cuts plot Factor 2 change on the Sensitivity 5Lines Analysis Juan Pablo Gómez-González

  4. DISCOVERY POTENTIAL Discrepancy in discovery potential Checked that the different results doesn’t come from difference ways to compute the discovery power.  We find compatible results with those that Garo have shown. 3.3 SIGNAL EVENTS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A 50% PROBABILITY OF A 3SIGMA DISCOVEY Better sg from bg discrimination 5Lines Analysis Juan Pablo Gómez-González

  5. CALIBRATION TABLES • Event by event comparison of relevant quantities • We have found some differences between the calibration values used Production ran by Jürgen (2007-2008 Analysis with Bbfit) TVCIFIC --> 5062269 (L5) & 10756385 (L10)CPPM --> 16684668 (both for L5 y L10) 1pe One different set is used Alignment IFIC --> 5330911 CPPM --> 33512503 Updating the analysis using more recent calibration tables 5Lines Analysis Juan Pablo Gómez-González

  6. EVENTS COMPARISONS TVC TO 1PE 0PE 233 common events  same run and frame index For those events difference in relevant variables are small Not common events are closer to the chi2 cut border 5Lines Analysis Juan Pablo Gómez-González

  7. RUN INFO AND RELEVANT DATA • Check that the proper run-start is used for the event time computation IFIC and CPPM find same time for the start time of each run A link to the table containing all the information will be available on the analysis webpage • Provide tables of the relevant data (effective area, atm neutrino flux, and signal flux) •  All values will be included on the documentation 5Lines Analysis Juan Pablo Gómez-González

  8. VISIBILITY ON EFFECTIVE AREA COMPUTATION • Check that you always use the visibility for the 90 deg. cut in the acceptance computation, even when cutting at 80 degrees in the analysis • Fraction of events generated as upgoing • (zenith > PI / 2) 5Lines Analysis Juan Pablo Gómez-González

  9. ANGULAR RESOLUTION SYSTEMATIC • Include in the documentation which systematic will be applied. • Angular resolution Time residuals Data and atm.Neutrino mc (3 pe) (chi2<1.8 & bchi2 > 1.8 & nhit > 5 & elevation < -10) Gives confidence on the expected angular resolution 5Lines Analysis Juan Pablo Gómez-González

  10. ACCEPTANCE SYSTEMATIC • Include in the documentation which systematic will be applied. • Acceptance systematic 5-lines muon paper systematic studies 1) Absorption length: 10% uncertainty  20% variation on the number of reconstructed tracks 2) PMT quantum & collection efficiency: 10%  30% 3) OM angular acceptance: 15% - 50%  35% / -30% 4) Timming: contribution negligible + Theoretical model  30% 5Lines Analysis Juan Pablo Gómez-González

  11. OUTSTANDING QUESTIONS • Include in the documentation which systematic will be applied. • Acceptance systematic 30 % symmetric band to represent the systematic uncertainty How does sensitivity changes if we consider a 30% systematic on the detection efficiency  use gaussian convolution 5Lines Analysis Juan Pablo Gómez-González

  12. OUTSTANDING QUESTIONS Include a description of the final treatment of the 10pe period and whether any overall scaling is applied to Aeff Mixed noise files mc number of events ratio (before / now) neutrinos 3pe: 0.94 (6% less) neutrinos 10pe: 0.82 (28% less) muons 3pe: 0.98 (2% less) muons10pe: 0.85 (15% less) No scaling facto to be applied ~30 % of events are coming from this period (40% of live time) 5Lines Analysis Juan Pablo Gómez-González

  13. OUTSTANDING QUESTIONS • Include in the documentation a description of which p-values will be computed and how Candidate list BIC distribution of only background BICobs 5Lines Analysis Juan Pablo Gómez-González
