  1. What is Engineering? Sebastian Maces

  2. Engineering is the practical application of science and math to solve problems. • It is everywhere in the world around you. From the start to the end of each day. • Engineering technologies improve the ways that we communicate, work, travel, stay healthy, and entertain ourselves.

  3. How much does an engineer make? • Aerospace engineering and operations technicians$51,650 • Electrical and electronic engineering technicians42,950 • Industrial engineering technicians41,910 • Mechanical engineering technicians41,280 • Electro-mechanical technicians38,120 • Civil engineering technicians37,720 • Environmental engineering technicians36,850

  4. What does and engineer do? • Engineers are problem-solvers • They want to make things work more efficiently and quickly and less expensive. • They design things from computer chips and satellites to medical devices and renewable energy technologies. • Engineering makes our modern life possible. • In particular, electrical engineers and computer engineers have a wide range of study options and career paths that let them design, build, and manage those ideas into reality.

  5. What is ASEE? • It is the American Society Engineering Education. • It was founded in 1893. • Its a nonprofit organization of many individuals and institutions that are committed to furthering education in engineering and technology. • It accomplishes its goal by promoting excellence in instruction, research, public service, practice, fostering the technological education of society; and exercising worldwide leadership; providing quality products and services to members.

  6. What is PLTW? • Project lead the way • Its a nonprofit organization, • Relies on partnership, cooperation, and sharing among all participants and partners in our programs. • Its extensive networks and partnerships include students, educators, schools and universities, and business and corporate leaders working together to provide a powerful learning experience.

  7. What is JETS? • Junior engineering technical society • Its a national non-profit educational organization • They are dedicated to promoting engineering and technology careers to our nation. • JETS engages students in various engineering education programs.

  8. Where can you go to get an education for engineering? • University of Phoenix • Walden University • ECPI College of Technology

  9. Obama & engineering •  "We need young people, instead of -- a smart kid coming out of school, instead of wanting to be an investment banker, we need them to decide if they want to be an engineer, they want to be a scientist, they want to be a doctor or a teacher," the president said. •  He would rather see students pursue things that actually contribute to making things and making people's lives better that's going to put our economy on solid footing.

  10. Electrical engineering • Has to do with basic forms of energy that run our world. • It can be gas, hydro, turbine, fuel cell, solar, geothermal, or wind energy. • Electrical engineers deal with distributing those energies to our homes, factories, offices, hospitals, and schools. • Wireless communication and the Internet are a few areas electrical engineering has help develop, by developing better phones, more powerful computers, and high-speed modems.
