The Decline • Haight-Ashbury District can’t sustain the thousands of people living there • Many youth are forced to sleep on the street, turning to panhandling, stealing, and drug dealing • Crime and violence skyrockets as hippie values deteriorate • Drug addiction, malnutrition, and disease become major issues
