  10. The Mechanics • Type Attributes • Graphics • Background Colors • Special Characters

  11. Type AttributesRace • Roman—Serif • Gothic—Sans Serif • Script—Cursive • Novelty—abcdefg • Very hard to read—not appropriate for presentations

  12. Type AttributesMembers/Styles • Plain, bold, italic, underline (inappropriate in Desktop Publishing), shadow, outline, condensed, extended

  13. Serif or Sans Serif? • Serif type has “feet” which anchor the letters at the top and bottom. Easier to read in a block of text. • San Serif does not have the little “feet” and is more like hand-printing.

  14. Serif or Sans Serif? • San Serif is used for • Titles • Signs • Serif is used in the body of a document—it is much easier to read.

  15. Type to Read • Printed Type— • Body type—10 and 12 points • Headlines—24 points or larger

  16. Type to Read • Projected Visuals— • Body type—36 points or larger • Headlines—48 points or larger (Long, narrow rooms need bigger fonts)

  20. Hanging Indents • Appropriate when using bullets. • Appropriate when using numbered lists. • When you write in a list like this, it looks unprofessional without a hanging indent!

  21. Graphics • Always turn the graphics toward the center of the screen if it has a direction.

  22. Using Color Red Associated with danger, it can increase blood pressure, it is stimulating, and exciting. Use sparingly. Subdued Red
