  1. Symposium to Abolish the Death Penalty Juan Melendez was convicted of a crime that he didn’t commit and spent nearly eighteen years on Florida’s Death Row. Key evidence in the case was concealed by the prosecution to protect the real killer; a police informant who had confessed to the crime. Abe Bonowitz is the Director of Citizens United for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, a national non-profit organization which promotes positive dialog regarding capital punishment and invigorated tactical grassroots activism by the global death penalty abolition movement. He has been a long-time activist with Amnesty International USA and served for four years as a member of its board of directors. Juan Melendez leaves the Union Correctional Institution in Ralford, FL. Accompanying Melendez are Investigator Rosa Greenbaum and attorney Marty McClain.
