  3. Basic Search There are four basic steps to searching for books in the CUNY+ basic search system: 1. Select to search either ALL CUNY libraries or an individual CUNY library. At York, by default, York College is searched. 2. Determine what area to search. Most commonly, a user searches by keyword anywhere within a record, but searching for a title beginning with, author (last name then first separated by a comma) subject begins with, keyword in author, title, or subject. etc. Remember: subject refers to what the Library of Congress has determined as the subject of an item (this may or may not be a common subject for a work); in addition, remember that the keyword is the word that a is used, and synonyms might be also be searched. 3. Enter the terms to be searched 4. Click the SEARCH button

  7. Guided Search: Introduction 2 To use the guided search, click on the guided search option in the upper left hand portion of the basic search display. The guided search permits the user to specify more exactly what he or she is searching for.

  9. Guided Search Explanation There are several things that can be limited in the guided search screen. Optional items are: 1. Select the CUNY college library to search, either an individual college or the entire CUNY system 2. Enter keyword(s) to search, up to three terms or groups of terms can be specified. In each of the three, select author, title or subject. 3. Is this a phrase search? 4. Limit language 5. Limit record type (including books or electronic books) 6. Limit publication year (to and from) 7. Limit location (within the library: reference, etc.) 8. New books only? 9. Click the search button (then view results)

  11. Journal Title Search It is possible to search for journal titles available within CUNY. Once again, it is possible to search all of CUNY or an individual library within CUNY. Furthermore, it is possible to search by keyword within title, ISSN, etc. Begin by choosing the journal title search from the basic CUNY+ screen.

  13. CUNY Course Reserves It is also possible to search CUNY course reserves. You can search for items in an individual CUNY library or within all of CUNY. In addition, you can limit the search by keyword anywhere, keyword in author, title, department, or instructor, etc. Begin by clicking the course reserves button on the CUNY+ basic search screen.
