  2. Definitions Theocracy: rule by God, either directly,or via earth representation in the form of priests. Pope:The bishop of Rome as head of the Roman Catholic Church. Theocracy belongs in Authority. It belongs in Authority because God is the supreme leader.

  3. Historical Connection & Current Event Connection Current (2011): Today, many countries use theocracy, such as: • Yemen • Saudi Arabia • Iran • Pakistan Most of these countries are having issues, however there are very strong religious beliefs and practice them daily.   4. Pros & Cons Pros • Rules derived directly (via earthly) from God. 2. If God is for us, who can be against us? 3. Everyone has freedom to praise their religion. Cons 1. Legislative bills are opposed because of the connection with God. 2. Not much diversity. 3. Citizens RARELY become angry about certain religions.

  5. Discussion Questions • How are leaders selected in this form of government? What titles are they given? • How is consent of the governed used in this government, if at all? • How does power changed hands in this form of government? • How is rule of law used in this government? Do government leaders follow this concept?

  6. Answers to Discussion Question • Leaders are selected by claiming they have connections to God. They can also be selected if they are priests or religious members. Pope is what a main earth representation from God is called. 2. Consent of the governed does not apply with theocracy because there is only power from God. 3. Theocracy change with power because the representative from God could be a fraud. 4. No one is above the law because God is the supreme ruler! It depends if the priests are serious priests and not frauds.
