Vocab • Typical Reader- A person or group of people who want or need specific information. • Writer’s Focus- Analyzing the audience’s needs and providing the info in the best way possible for the audience to understand. • Primary Audience- Readers or listeners to whom you are responsible first. • Secondary Audience- Readers or listeners to whom you are responsible after having met the needs of the primary audience.
Primary vs. Secondary Primary Audience Secondary Audience • Authorizes document • Makes decisions based on info in document • Requests or takes action • Will usually read the entire document • Affected by the document in some way • interested in decisions made or information in the document • May use the info for a different purpose than in the document • Reads selected portions *Multiple Audience- Requires analysis of each audience member
