  4. History of DMSP-OLS Data Availability • 1965 - DMSP begins • 1972 - Existance of DMSP declassified. Film archive initiated. • 1992 - Digital DMSP archive initiated at NOAA-NGDC. The U.S. Air Force requires NGDC to hold OLS data for 72 hours prior to release. Data retrieval from archive based on 8mm tape reproduction and airmail • September 28, 1999 - DMSP-OLS data delivered to MAFFIN via APAN. • October 5, 1999 - DMSP-OLS data delivery to MAFFIN and CRISP (Singapore) becomes operational • December 21, 1999 - The U.S. Air Force relaxes 72 hour hold to 3 hours. • January 22, 2000 - NGDC delivers 3 hour old DMSP-OLS data to MAFFIN. • February 11, 2000 - Delivery of 3 hour old DMSP-OLS data to MAFFIN and CRISP becomes operational.

  16. What’s the Tsukuba WAN ? Tsukuba WAN is the network for research collaboration and cooperation among industries, universities and governments. Its ultrahigh-speed access ring network is linking many institutes in Tsukuba area. This is intended to improve usability of recourses possessed by research institutes in Tsukuba, such as supercomputer, large-scale database, and computer simulation software. The network construction was begun in 2000, and operation was started at May 2002. The Tsukuba WAN symposium was held on May 2, 2002 with the opening ceremony. At the symposium, some research program and results of usage of Tsukuba WAN, were introduced and their concept were discussed. http://tsukuba-wan.mexttci.go.jp/
