  12. Assignment B – Responding to Community Needs • You will meet with an Assessor who will conduct a professional discussion interview with you. Some example questions have been provided to help you to prepare for the assessment. You will not necessarily be asked these exact questions. Please bring your Reflective Review (from Assignment A) with you as the Assessor may want to refer to this. The professional discussion interview will last approximately 45 minutes. The interview discussion will be recorded and will be stored electronically for verification purposes. • Example Questions • How would you define your role? • What constraints do you have to deal with? • Describe a situation when you have been asked to resolve an issue/concern • What follow up action did you take? • Were other agencies involved? • In what ways do you represent your ward/community group? • Assignment A - Leading Communities • Compile a Reflective Review drawing on at least 4 experiences during your first few months as a Community Leader. A template has been provided but feel free to use your own format if you wish. It is important to reflect on what you have learned about your role as a Community Leader and what skills and innate styles you already have that will help you to be effective in the role. You should critically reflect on your leadership approach and explain how your strengths can be used in community leadership. • How to Keep a Reflective Review • Think back to an experience which made you question how you act or think • Describe what happened and the other agencies/individuals involved • Reflect back and list the outcomes • Explain what you will do differently in the future

Assignment C2 - Facilitating Community Services • You should prepare and deliver a written or verbal case-study by: • Writing or discussing your chosen case-study topic, including: • A description of one case-study theme or topic and the impact of it on your local community • Relevant political, economic, social, technical, legislative and environmental issues • How you consulted with and engaged your local community • How “hard to reach” groups were involved • What decisions were made • How you monitored the situation • Assignment C1 – Assessing and Using Information • You will plan and deliver a case-study that illustrates how you have assessed and used information for a particular theme or project. This might reflect a particular interest of yours or a project you have been working on or a committee you are involved in. Some examples might include: • Planning, Licensing, Overview & Scrutiny, Localism, Conservation and Climate Change, Housing, Waste and Recycling, Electronic Communication and Community Engagement, Social Care, Social Enterprise, Health, Transport • In this section you should focus on the data and information you will use to support your decisions by: • Gathering data and facts • Describe the information you will be using in your case-study (you should use a variety of information including: numerical information, a graph, facts) • Identify the sources you will be using • Explain why you are using this information and how reliable it is

  16. Assignment E – Improving Community Services Part 1 You will plan a presentation that illustrates how you have contributed to monitoring and improving a community issue. You may be able to use some of the analysis and information you gathered when you completed Assignment C, alternatively, you may decide to use a completely different scenario Part 2 Deliver a professional presentation and evaluate your own ability to make professional presentations (a summary of your evaluation must be submitted to the assessor). • Assignment D - Leading Meetings • For this assignment, you will demonstrate your understanding and ability to lead a meeting. • You should arrange to conduct a meeting and you will need to invite an appropriate colleague to observe you. You should both then complete the observation form which you will submit for assessment • ii) List 3 types of meeting with which you are involved and give an example of each. State why that particular format is appropriate • iii) Take one example, identify the meeting objectives, how you would prepare for the meeting and how you would ensure that you make effective use of your communication skills, particularly the listening skill. • iv) Give an example of how you would use your negotiation skills to agree a set of actions
