Road to politics • Obama served three terms in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. • He won election to the U.S. Senate in November 2004. • His presidential campaign began in February 2007 and won his party's nomination. • In the 2008 general election, he defeated Republican nominee John McCain and was inaugurated as president on January 20, 2009.

  8. Our Comments • We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

  9. Our comments • Well, I say to them tonight, there is not a liberal America and a conservative America -- there is the United States of America. There is not a Black America and a White America and Latino America and Asian America -- there’s the United States of America.

  10. Words we learned(1) • Bomber轟炸機 an aircraft that drops bombs. • assembly line裝配線 a line of machines and workers in a factory which a product moves along while it is being built or produced. Each machine or worker performs a particular job, which must be finished before the product moves to the next position in the line.
