  2. Civil Rights Act 1964 • The law that made racial discrimination against any group in hotels, motels, and restaurants illegal and forbade many forms of job discrimination. • See other parts on page 150!

  3. 15th and 24th Amendment • The 15th Amendment extended suffrage (the right to vote) to African Americans. • The 24th Amendment made poll taxes illegal.

  4. Poll Taxes • Small taxes levied on the right to vote. This method was used by southern states to exclude African Americans from voting.
