  3. Paying for the War • Liberty Bonds and Victory Bonds -US spending $44 million a day -Gov’t borrowing money from the people

  4. Workforce help • Women go to the factories ( not permanently) • African Americans move to the North • Mexican Americans Head North

Climate of Suspicion • Government worried about espionage • US hires translators to open people’s mail • Congress passes series of acts to limit free speech against the war • German Americans harassed -dachshunds made illegal -German language classes suspended -many beers and restaurants changed their names

  6. propaganda • Propaganda is communication aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position. • Each nation will use propaganda to influence their citizens’ way of thinking about the enemy.
