INTRODUCTION They started the Iditarod race because of a disease called Diphtheria and the people might want to give the money that they won to the medicine makers to make the medicine for the kids and adults who are sick.
Musher • Lachlan Clarke • Bib Number: 5 • 58 years old • Born and raised in Derby, New York • Hometown: Colorado
Dogs • The dogs wore booties to protect their feet from getting scratches and scrapes • So the booties help their feet. The dogs have equipment witch is: harnesses, booties, lead ropes. • They used Siberian Husky’s and Alaskan Malamutes. • They start with 16 dogs.
ROUTES & CHECKPOINTS • The Routes & Checkpoints are different because we got all of Alaska’s snow and Alaska got our snow. • They start at Fairbanks. • They end at Nome. • There are 17 checkpoints. • There are approximately 1049 miles in the race.
Awards • Wells Fargo Red Lantern- Presented to the last musher to finish the race. • Anchorage Chrysler Dodge Official Truck Awards-Presented to the Iditarod Winner. • Wells Fargo Bank Alaska Gold Coast Award-Present to the first musher to reach the “Gold Coast” community of Unalakleet.
