Creating a Brand for STARS in Florida (with TSA) Matt Russi, Allison Loehr, Nancy Moyers, Ebe Randeree Ebe.Randeree@cci.fsu.edu • Introduction • The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national, non-profit student organization created in 1978 now with 150,000 members in 48 states • TSA provides opportunities for middle and high school students who have a strong interest in technology to build on their skills through co-curricular activities and competitions. Students focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). STARS works with these students through conferences and school visits High School TSA students Middle School TSA students • Next Steps • Wait for word from the University to take this model from computing/IT to other STEM majors and broaden the partnership with TSA • Encourage other STARS schools to partner with TSA – these are the students you want • Continue partnership with TSA (local chapters, state organization, and schools) TSA alumni join STARS in College • Initiative • Outreach and recruitment are constant challenges • Finding K-12 students who understand computing/IT and STEM is difficult; especially students that have experience with STEM, leadership and communication • TSA students provide a natural fit (with STARS) • Our initiative involved 5 strategic steps over 3 years that built a partnership with STARS and Florida TSA TSA students recruit the next group Students in STARS Schools TSA students join STARS Leadership Corp How do we partner with existing STEM programs?
