  2. Background -Born in Atchison, Kansas. -Growing up when World War I was happening -She had to prove that she could fly even though she was a girl Amelia Earhart as a little girl

  3. 1921 • She took flying lessons from Neta Snook. • Neta Snook called her a natural. • Amelia liked to fly between wires that were only eight feet apart! Amelia Earhart with her teacher, Neta Snook, and her first plane.

  4. 1922 • She set her first record flying to a height of 14,000 feet. • She set the record in her first plane that she got from her parents and sister. Amelia Earhart’s first plane.

  5. 1932 • She became the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. • She was the fastest to cross the Atlantic twice by air in May.

  6. 1935 • She became the first person to fly solo across the Pacific Ocean. • She flew from .Honolulu, Hawaii to Oakland, California in January.

  7. July 2 • She disappeared near Howland Island in the Pacific. • Some people say that they claim to find bones, and they think it might be her bones. • Some people think the Japanese might of captured her. • Some people think she might have landed on a deserted island.

  8. Character Traits • She was very brave because she wanted to fly a plane, but all the men said she couldn’t fly a plane,but she did. • She was very determined cause she stuck with her talent. Amelia Earhart getting ready to fly

  9. Quote “Women must try to do things as men have tried. When they fail, their failure must be a challenge to others.” • Meaning: Women should pick up where she left off and try things that women supposedly can’t do, even if other women tried but did not completely succeed.
