Objectives • Use the library’s online catalog to find journal titles • Use the library’s databases to find scholarly or research articles in CINAHL Plus with Full Text and Elsevier ScienceDirect, other databases.
Is It a Scholarly Article?. Does it have at least two of the following sections?
Where Do I Find Articles? • Full text articles may be found in library-subscribed databases (restricted access for registered users) • CINAHL Plus with Full Text • Elsevier ScienceDirect • Some general databases: Academic Search Premier, Academic OneFile
Where Do I Find Articles? • Citation/abstract databases • Biological Sciences • Library subscribed database • PubMed • free from NIH, Web accessible When you find a citation, look for the full text of the article in the JSU catalog and/or databases
Where Do I Find Articles? • Library Catalog-find journal titles • Databases-find journal articles • Serials Solutions-search by title or subject areas to see if the journal is available in electronic format in a database • Article Linker-find articles by title, journal information
Where Do I Find Articles, Cont. • Limitedreputable full text sources are available free on the Web. There may be a delay before articles are put on the site. • PubMed Central • BioMed Central (free, but requires registration) • HighWire Press
What's a Citation? An Abstract? • Citations are information about the article, including author, article title, journal title, volume and issue numbers, and page numbers • Abstracts are article summaries, often with an outline of the methodology, other components
CINAHL Plus with Full Text • Start at the library home page • Click on the Databases tab • Under Databases By Title, select CINAHL Plus with Full Text • In the search box, type one or more words or a phrase related to your topic • Check “peer reviewed” box to limit search to scholarly articles

Find the Title Scroll down the next page, titled Electronic Resources and Databases by Title to CINAHL Plus Full Text
Beginning Search Screen Type search term(s), check Peer Reviewed limit, click Search
Results List Display Linked Full Text goes to article
Finding Your Article If the article you need is not full text in the database you are searching, it might be in another. Search the online catalog by clicking the Check Library’s Catalog for Holdings link in database records
Catalog Search Screen Type journal title, omitting a, an, the articles in beginning. Select Journal Title, Click Search button
Pick a Database But not just any database. Check the date coverage to see if the correct year is there, then click on a database title
Journal Page in Database Select a year, then choose volume and issue, according to your citation
Finding an Article’s Text • Serials Solutions is linked under the Databases tab on the homepage. • Check to see if a journal is available full-text in a database using Serials Solutions. If so, you may click on a link to go to that database.
Searching Serials Solutions Type the name of a journal, click Search
Search Results for Journal Click on a link to go to a database
Journal in Elsevier Science Direct Click on pdf to go to article
Article Linker Type article title, journal title, etc., click Look Up. The DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is used here
