  4. Why is this Strategy Critical to Student Achievement? • Memorizing random words to be tested at the end of the week does not increase long-term retention • Students use vocabulary to remember key points of the lesson • Focus on key vocabulary

How do We Effectively Use Vocabulary in Context • Give the definition and contextual application of word to students • Provide multiple ways for students to use the key words • Create opportunities for students to use contextual vocabulary to use with extended thinking skills • Web 2.0 Applications: Word clouds to highlight high frequency words, movie making software
