  1. FILS STA Support for QoS, HT and VHT? Authors: • Date:2012-07-04 Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia

  2. Abstract • The mandatory capabilities of the FILS STA have not been defined or discussed properly in the group. • The presentation is asking: Are all FILS STAs: • - QoS capable • - HT capable • - VHT capable Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia

  3. Background • 802.11ai task group defines enhancements that are mandatory or optional for FILS capable devices • The enhancements modify MAC-layer or authentication procedures of the STA • The enhancements may be implemented with any PHY (DSSS, OFDM, HT or VHT PHY) • Many broadcast frames should be receivable by all STAs in the coverage area Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia

  4. QoS support ? • QoS support is assumed for 802.11ae Prioritization of management frames • Many presentations have been tuning EDCA and Access Categories (ACs); they have targetted to lower delays and to prioritize FILS related frames transmission • If all STAs are QoS STAs, the priorization schemes are simplified and reliability of the FILS is improved • Recommendation is that all FILS STAs are QoS Capable, i.e. QoS STA Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia

  5. HT Support ? • HT Support enables STA to use A-MPDU, A-MSDU aggregations, block ack, PSMP, MIMO transmissions, 40 MHz transmission bandwidth, etc. • None of these features seem to directly impact to FILS STA operation • Of course, having support and capability for these operations would enable better operation in some scenarios • Also all HT STAs are QoS STAs • How does group feel, should FILS STA be HT STA? Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia

  6. VHT Support ? • VHT support enables 80 MHz (or 160 MHz ) transmission banwidth, new MCS schemes, improvements to RTS CTS signaling, new MIMO transmission schemes, etc. • None of these features seem to directly impact to FILS STA operation • Of course, having support and capability for these operations would enable better operation in some scenarios • Also all VHT STAs are HT STAs • How does group feel, should FILS STA be VHT STA? Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia

  7. Motion 1 • Move to add the following text to the clause 6 of TGai Specification Framework document (11-12/0151r08): • ” FILS STA is QoS STA” Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia

  8. Motion 2 • Move to add the following text to the clause 6 of TGai Specification Framework document (11-12/0151r08): • ” FILS STA is HT STA” Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia

  9. Motion 3 • Move to add the following text to the clause 6 of TGai Specification Framework document (11-12/0151r08): • ” FILS STA is VHT STA” Jarkko Kneckt, Nokia
