  3. Objectives… At the conclusion of the presentation, participants will be able to • Explain how (and why) 5-minute facets were conceptualized • Explain how 5-minute facets can be taken home to their own institutions and used.

  4. Origin and purpose of 5-minute facets… • Oct. 2007- Strategic goal: reach a larger percentage of full-time faculty • Faculty Advisory Council meeting idea: Pre-packaged workshops 5 minutes of a department meeting. Delivered by a faculty member in that dept. • Puts faculty development in the hands of faculty.

  5. Participation in a 5-minute facet… • The pilot test • Presentation at a faculty meeting • How we’ll proceed today

  6. Debriefing… • After our faculty meeting • Follow-up letter • Feedback/additional discussion

  7. Design process… • Faculty Advisory Council chose Plagiarism/Academic Integrity as first topic; • In my role as faculty associate • Brainstormed w/FaCET staff for topics for three 5-minute FaCETs • Used a text as organizer w/additional research

  8. 5-minute FaCETS • Template format: • Purpose; faculty motivation to know material; WKU policy; Recommendation or Questions; Bibliography • Review by • FaCET staff and • Faculty Advisory Council • Blair did first pilot test with his department.

  9. Need good background material A template can be adapted if you’re giving it to others “Leave them wanting more!” Cautions: What are the needs of the department? content? discussion? Both? Timing: See if you can go first in a meeting. Tips…
